As of November 20th, it was revealed that the executive director of the Free Speech Coalition Diane Duke (along with porn industry attorney Marc Randazza, porn studio Evil Angel general manager Christian Mann & FSC / APC4C speaker Lydia Ann Gray(aka Julie Meadows aka Lydia Lee) attended the “Individual Liberty in the Adult Entertainment Industry” discussion panel and luncheon which was hosted and paid for by convicted sex-offender August Kurt Brackob (aka Kurt Treptow – a man who was found by a court of law to have had sexual relations with a 13 year old girl).
As of November 23rd, Tom Byron of www.AdultFYI.com has posted an article that provides proof of Kurt Brackob having been a speaker at the Xbiz 360 “Sex and Politics” discussion panel which was moderated by Diane Duke in January of 2013.
The Free Speech Coalition has not made an official statement yet in regards to their knowledge of Brackob’s past or the extent of their affiliation with him (or his organization Liberty Prospers / American Liberty Coalition – WeAreLiberty.org) even though both Rob Black of www.AdultFYI.com and Mike South of www.MikeSouth.com have posted and commented on the issue.
Brackob, it appears, has been working in tandem with the Free Speech Coalition to raise funds and attempt to overturn the 2257 record keeping law. A law which assists pornographers in keeping records of pornstar’s government issued identification to ensure that minors are not hired and cast to perform in xxx content.
Hopefully the Free Speech Coalition will not come out in defense of Brackob, but if they were to, it would not be the first instance of the Free Speech Coalition defending child pornography and pedophilia.
In 2008 a Free Speech Coalition attorney by the name of Lou Sirkin defended the individuals behind the website ChildSupermodels.com which was run by Webe Web Corp. As reported by the Associated Press, United States Attorney Alice Martin said the pictures – which were billed as images of child models – amount to “soft porn” of children (which is prohibited by US federal law).
Lou Sirkin is best known for his work on the Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition case. He achieved a victory by having two (what was deemed as) “overbroad” provisions of the Child Pornography Prevention Act of 1996 struck down, because they abridged “the freedom to engage in a substantial amount of lawful speech”.
Considering Lou Sirkin’s defense of what was determined to be child pornography in 2008, and this week’s revelations in regards to Kurt Brackob, I personally feel that the Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition case (and/or the issues it involves) needs to be re-addressed in a court of law.
It’s to be seen as to whether a reporter such as Dan Miller of Xbiz.com (which touts it’s self as being a top industry news source) or a reporter from AVN will address the issue of Brackob. It’s rather odd that Brackob would have been a speaker on a discussion panel that addressed “legitimate porn industry professionals”, yet was not named anywhere on the Xbiz.com website. Were those who attended the “Sex and Politics” panel aware of Brackob’s background? Had anyone who’d scheduled Brackob to speak checked into his history?
If the Los Angeles porn industry wants to be viewed as a legitimate, responsible & law abiding industry, it’s political face (which is the Free Speech Coalition) at this stage needs to be disbanded. The facts are, that the FSC is working in conjunction with KNOWN CONVICTED PEDOPHILES to eliminate the 2257 record keeping laws to essentially make it easier for those interested in producing pornography featuring minors to do so.
American mainstream society (and government) will never accept this type of activity.
***Update 12:14:2013 - It appears in 2010, 1st amendment attorney & Free Speech Coalition supporter Marc John Randazza authored an article (blog post) defending a man’s right to author a book entitled “The Pedophile’s Guide” (by Phillip Greaves). Randazza went as far as to label those who brought Greaves to justice “white trash”.
