adult actress Kate Kennedy @TheOGKennedy has some very good ideas in regards to implementing adult performer mental health checkups. Her ideas could prevent future performer suicides.
May 1, 2020PNT commentary: Kate Kennedy has a very progressive mind – Free Speech Coalition members should take notice. She’s a smart girl who appears to embody quite a bit of insight AND empathy.
I genuinely believe if we mandated industry wide job training, covering things like finances, mental health, physical health, etc., we could mitigate a significant amount of the “collateral” damage we have now. It’s my personal belief, but I think it would work.

Totally. I’m not trying to imply it does. I think part of our job training should be information about mental & physical health and substance abuse, which is actually becoming more standard in a lot of industries, which is great!

I think ideally, to me, I would like to see a more active role in mental health screenings for new performers. If I’m REALLY reaching, I think it would be cool to mandate monthly counseling sessions for performers in their first year. It’s a pipe dream and I know that.

Obviously not that you can’t be a performer with mental health issues (I am one!) but let’s catch it early and provide the resources people need to manage it, because I do think sex work can exacerbate underlying issues.

I would like to see it mandated that agents provide a resource package upon signing new performers, w/ a mental health screening by a professional, physical by a doctor, & short financial literacy course. I basically think signing up for porn should be like enlisting in the army.

Mental health screenings are really common in many industries, and I think it’s a little bullheaded of us in adult to act like the stigma surrounding our job can’t exacerbate existing issues.

There’s actually an enormous problem with professional athletes not getting mental health resources as well, so sure.
Either way the problem exists, and I’m just so disgusted with this fatalistic attitude that it always will.

It might not have been the best word for this audience, I see that. I think it should be on the agents to have new performers attend a very short job training, get a physical, and a mental health check up. It would take like a single afternoon.
